If you want to know more about why period underwear is a good choice…
Why to use period panties?
To save nature and consume less. A woman uses an average of 240 tampons a year and an average of 9600 tampons in her lifetime. A lot of chemicals and plastics have been used in the production of tampons, which can take up to 500 years to finally decompose in nature. Sanitary pads contain around 90% plastic, which does not decompose in nature, even over several generations.
Scientifically, there is no evidence linking tampons to TSS (toxic shock syndrome) or the effects of chemicals released from tampons to our bodies, but in practice these problems are often linked to the use of tampons by young women.
The use of period underwear is a good alternative to traditional sanitary products. When using period underwear, a woman may only need 2 to 5 pairs of panties, depending on the flow, the absorbency of the different models and the user’s personal model preference.
Is absorbent underwear much more expensive than tampons and pads?
Research shows that Estonian women spend an average of 15€ a month on tampons and sanitary pads, which adds up to 180€ a year. One pair of period panties will last for years with proper care.
On average, a woman needs between 3 and 5 pairs of underwear, for a total cost of 135-225€. This means savings of 135€ to 225€ in just two years, not to mention significantly less waste produced that does not decompose in nature. Investing in Rocking Undies underwear pays off in the first year.
Why is bamboo fabric good?
Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world. In the textile industry, bamboo is considered to be a very environmentally friendly raw material, as it grows quickly and naturally, without pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers, and it is also quite low water demanding. Bamboo fabric is soft, smooth and well draping. Bamboo fabric helps to keep the skin dry, absorbs moisture very well (about 3 times better than cotton) and regulates body temperature (cooling in summer heat and warming in winter cold).
Textiles made from bamboo have natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, are non-irritating, non-allergenic and 100% biodegradable.
Is super absorbent underwear hygienic?
Yes, bamboo has inherent antibacterial properties. The super absorbent mid-layer has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, preventing germs and unpleasant odours.
How long does Rocking Undies period underwear last?
The products have been successfully tested and show no signs of damage after 2 years. If cared properly, they will last for many years, but it all depends on how often they are used and how they are cared for.
How many pairs of underwear do I need?
It all depends on your flow is and whether you’re still using a menstrual cup, tampons, pads or other sanitary products. If you’re only using menstrual underwear, you also need to consider that it takes longer to dry than regular underwear, and depending on the flow and frequency of changes, you may need a few extra pairs.
